Our Research Team

Our group has a long experience in the field of Gerontology. Our focus is the clinical work with geriatric and gerontopsychiatric patients. We have worked in the diagnosis and treatment of older people with mild cognitive impairment, dementia and depression. In our research and participation in gerontological projects we have developed and evaluated trainings in the fields of compentece and prevention in the aged, education and learning, computer-training, Learning Regions, cognition and aging.The current focus is in the field of psychotherapy in old age and memory.

 

Dr. rer. biol. hum. Sophia Poulaki born in 1963 in Athens, Greece, graduated from the German School in Athens and studied Pedagogy, Psychology, Anthropology and Human Genetics at the University of Munich and Psychogerontology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In her PhD at the Medical Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University as Doctor of Human Biology she has dealt with the development and evaluation of a computer-based memory training for older people with memory problems and dementia. After scientific work at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich and many years of clinical work at the Center for Geriatrics and early rehabilitation on Neuperlach Hospital, she directed the Program for the elderly of the Munich Community College. Since 2009 is she working as a licensed Psychotherapist in her own Psychotherapy Practice with focus on the eldery.

Britta Wiegele born in 1962 in Villach, Austria, studied  Philosophy, Pedagogy, Psychology and History at the University of Klagenfurt and Psychogerontology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Her PhD at the faculty of Psychology in Klagenfurt dealt with the Quality of Life in the elderly. After scientific work at the University of Erlangen-Nurenberg and at the Center for Gerontology at the State Academy of Lower Austria, is she working since 1997 as Psychogerontologist in the Memory Clinic at the Center for Geriatrics and early Rehabilitation, Neuperlach Hospital and as a licensed Psychotherapist. Her focus is on diagnosis and treatment of memory problems and dementias.

big_34081813_0_110-110Dr. Kimon Spiliopoulos was born in 1960 in Athens, Greece. He holds a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Athens, an MSc in Management Science from the Imperial College/ Univ. of London and a PhD in Operations Research from the Univ. of Piraeus, Greece. He is the “quant” in our research team. Being an experienced data scientist, he is most familiar with methods and “tools” for medical and social statistics, used in cross-sectional, case-control and cohort studies. His particular interests are in modern measurements of well-being and quality of life and in the application of advanced machine learning modeling techniques. Indicatively, he participated in a EC study «Expert Review and Proposals for Monitoring Trends in Health Inequalities in the EU» and was a co-author in the final report.

Praktikantin im Verein, MA holder Communications Consultant, Aphrodite Tsiknia, was born in 1980 in London UK. She holds a BA In Communication Science from American College of Greece – Deree College and an MA in Mass Communications from London Metropolitan University. Her love of tv and films drove her to work for 5 years in the tv and film production and for 1 year in the field of Public Relations. Being an expert in communication field she is most familiar with drafting letters, provide and organize communication strategies, make public service announcement, writing articles, prepare publicity materials, arrange business meeting and social events. As well as translation and editing for special articles and readings (Greek,English, German and vice versa)
